Abstract: Background: Degenerative meniscus tears have long been treated with Arthroscopic Partial Meniscectomy (APM). However recent studies have questioned its effectiveness of improving pain, function but also long-termknee health, showing similar outcomes through a conservative approach. Physical Therapy (PT) has therefore become a relevant intervention option, as the integrity of the meniscus can be preserved, knee function can be restored and pain/discomfort reduced.Objective: The aim of this thesis is to spread more awareness on degenerative meniscus lesions, by discussing conservative treatment options and the importance of patient education.Methods: A review of RCTs was conducted from November 2024 to July 2025, following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Thirteen databases were screened (Medline, Cochrane, Cinahl, Embase, Journals of ISAKOS etc.). Criteria’s for inclusion were adults aged 35-65 years with a degenerative meniscus tear and low to moderate osteoarthritis (K&L 0-3). Data extraction focused on PT as the intervention type, KOOS, IKDC and PSFS scores as primary outcomes andSOA, ROA and muscle strength as secondary outcomes. The Cochrane RoB 2 tool was used to assess risk of bias.Results: In the short-term (3 months-2 years) APM showed better overall results, which attenuated over time. Most crossovers happened within those two years (rage of crossover 20%-38%). In the long-term (5-10 years), both groups showed substantial improvements, with PT showing no inferiority to APM. Conclusions: The findings of this review confirm the non-inferiority of PT. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of progressive exercises with a focus on patient education, especially during the short-term period.
